The Memories center of Bom Jesus do Monte ceramic collection is composed by a set of pieces with both functional and utilitarian character. The existence of this vast architectural complex which is the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte demanded pieces that could be used to decorate the sacred iconography, both in the chapels and the basilica.
The number of jars and pots dating back to the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries is a testimony of this legacy. It's a heterogeneous set that represents the evolution of preferences and the modeling art.
The North of Portugal is one of the country's production centers of this typology of pieces. Therefore, pieces from Viana do Castelo, Porto, Gaia, and Barcelos are highlighted. At the same time, there are some pieces from other regions of the country, where Vista Alegre production and factories from Sacavém stand out.
